Sending armed forces to round people up, targeting certain areas, businesses, people by the color of their skin…separating families, traumatizing children, imprisoning human beings and detaining them in deplorable conditions… huh, it’s almost like this happened before and we call it one of the biggest tragedies in all human history.

Today, where I live in Raleigh, North Carolina, people are afraid to leave their homes. Many children aren’t in school, parents aren’t going to work, the grocery store, etc. They are in hiding to protect themselves and their families.

Love and light are a million times stronger than darkness and hate. Love is the most powerful force on this planet.

Love conquers all! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💜

Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Exhale the last breath of summer,
Inhale the first breath of crisp, autumn air.
Release,
Let go.

Here, under the stars,
The ancient grandmothers watch over me.
They grow taller and wiser with each passing year.

They begin to let their wild hair
Tumble down to the ground.
And with this,
They thin the veil once more.

The warmth and protection they offered, In the summer months,
Has come to an end.

They are making space,
For the light to come in.
This is their gift,
Before the dark months ahead.

Call it in, kindle it.
Feed it and let it grow.

Lately I’ve been reading a lot about our planet, focusing on the current state and our future.

I am understanding that things need to start changing NOW in order for our planet to continue to support humanity and all life on earth, even for my own children.

I am realizing there are so many things we (my family) can do without or change the way we do things in order to help support humanity’s mission to rebuild biodiversity in an effort to save this beautiful planet for our children and future generations.

The more we take from the planet, and do not give back… the more greed drives our personal ambitions, the more we are continuing to rob the planet and future generations of the natural resources essential for survival… the longer we pretend that this isn’t happening or isn’t that big of a deal or isn’t our problem, the more we are dooming the future of life on Earth.

The choices we make today matter. They are all a big deal. Each one of us is responsible. The choices you make matter. How you live your everyday life matters.

The inspiration behind this piece in progress is water. 🌊🩵 It’s in our atmosphere, our bodies, we consume it, bathe in it… it’s essential not only for us to drink, but to grow our food, house the abundant plant and animal life found in the oceans, rivers, lakes and streams. Life on Earth cannot exist without it.

I’ve come to remember that I am part of nature. We are all part of nature. It is not something separate from ourselves. If we can all remember that, maybe our planet has a chance of survival. If we treat it with respect and care for it like family, it will in turn continue to do the same for us.

If you are still doubtful, just take a look at all the environmental shifts taking place… all of the natural disasters. The world is heating up. Summers in NC are now reaching 100 degrees. That was not always so. Hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding, fires and tornadoes are effecting areas that they hadn’t in the past, with increased frequency and intensity.

It’s time for a shift to live in harmony and alignment with all of nature. It’s time to rethink everything. 🌎

I’m embracing summer differently than I have in recent years. I welcome it and I’m not hiding from it or wishing it would go away. It is here and so am. We co-exist. Autumn will come in its own time and I will be ready to welcome it in. But for now, I embrace a deep, moody summer with lots of spontaneity, change and flowing through ups and downs along with the waves of the ocean. 🌊

Hi! It’s been a long time. While I’ve been busy stepping into a new role as a Waldorf-inspired forest school teacher, moving and navigating one of the most challenging times we’ve ever faced as a family, I still have fiber in my hands every day.

Whether weaving, needle felting attempting to crochet, finger knitting, etc, having fiber in my hands is my medicine.

This piece is still in progress. I was trying my first attempt at making a rug for my daughter’s room, buuuuuuut it’s very thick, not laying flat, and I’m now thinking that it will end up on the wall in some fashion. 🙃

It isn’t easy to be alive in this world at this time. Almost every aspect of life is a struggle. I am grateful for so much and know that this too shall pass. Without darkness, there can be no light. ❤️🩷🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

It’s time for a life update…

The past three months have been full of BIG changes.

- We lost my beautiful grandma (expected), followed very unexpectedly by my uncle, her youngest son and caregiver.

- We ditched being unschoolers once again and returned to the kids Waldorf school, which had moved locations and was about an hour away from our house.

- I took a JOB, for the first time in 5 years, as the teaching assistant in my daughter’s class at the school. The Early Childhood class is a forest program and I’m loving it so much. I get to cook and make tea in the mornings, work on weaving and gardening projects and just be in the forest with the children. 😊

- We decided to move closer to the school and my husband’s primary work area and are so happy! This is a picture of our house in the woods, which has always been my dream. 🌲

Lots of big changes in such a short time. Weaving has been few and far between as I adjust to being a working woman once again and we are also still in the process of moving and my weaving supplies are split between the two houses. 🫠

Bear with me… Things should start to settle down soon and I will be back to sharing my weaving again. Life is an adventure! ☺️

She’s coming along! 💚🩷 Slow and steady.

I’ve been living life slowly while also grappling with some big picture decisions. Lots of change, as always… the one constant in life.

I’m having so much fun with this piece and can’t wait to see her finished, but I am enjoying the process so, so much. 😊🌈

Yesterday, we laid my sweet grandmother, Doris, to rest. She lived 91 beautiful years. Everything she did was for her family… for my grandpop, her children, her grandchildren… it’s what made her happy.

She was an amazing cook, a collector of fine antiques and loved to fish with my grandpop. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking or baking. Even when I visited her just a few weeks ago, when her body and mind were in the process of shutting down, she continuously asked if I was warm enough, comfortable (wanted to get me a more comfortable chair) and offered me food multiple times, of course. 😊

She instilled in her children, including my dad, the importance of family and that nothing is more important than taking care of each other. They also passed this gift to their children (me, my siblings, cousins, our children…). It is the most wonderful gift she ever could’ve given.

I wanted to put something with her body in its final resting place. I spent a full day (which I never do) weaving this piece to lay over her hands. It is made of the softest wools and silks and in her favorite colors. She loved cherubs, and I always thought of her as an angel. She will always be our angel, I know, continuing to watch over our family as she did during her life on this earth.

She is with my grandpop again, and all is as it should be. Her service was so incredibly beautiful and would’ve been exactly what she wanted. I feel comfort knowing that a piece of me went with her soul, but also will remain with her physical body. Her heart shall remain with me forever and always. I am so, so lucky for having her in my life for as long as I did. She was such a gift to our family and the world, and who she was will continue to be passed down in the hearts of our family for generations to come. 🩵❄️🪽 🤍

It’s been very quiet over on this feed. There have been many life changes, hardships and grief. But, as with all seasons, the world keeps turning, and this season will pass.

I feel things very deeply. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but most times it makes things challenging for me. I don’t know how to feel things any less deeply because it’s just at the core of who I am. It’s part of me.

When I isolate it’s because I need to separate myself from people, situations and all the complexities of the world and relationships. I find myself isolating much more frequently each year, and I think it’s because daily life and just living continues to get more complex with each passing year. Even trying to keep a simple life is difficult, as we are pulled in all directions more and more and more as time goes on. Hibernation is the only thing that I’ve found to help, but also, it doesn’t. Because though some things may fade out and away as time passes, other things just wait to pounce on you as soon as you step back into the world.

I made a solo drive to New Jersey this past weekend, only for one full day, to see my grandma who is slowly transitioning out of her physical body. I sat with her for about seven hours. Some of the time she talked like she always had, but much of the time she was somewhere else, seeing and experiencing things I could not. And though I am so glad I got that time with her, I’ve been an emotional wreck since.

I’ve experienced sudden loss and also slow, progressive loss. Neither feels worse than the other. They’re so different yet so similar. Sudden loss stabs you through the heart and you can’t breathe. Slow loss is being continually dragged below water, desperately gasping for air over and over, only to be continually pulled under. In both situations you are helpless. You give as much as you can but it will never be enough.

I am still making, slowly, in a more therapeutic way for myself. It is one of the meditative things I can do to relieve my mind temporarily and work toward creating something beautiful from a place of pain. ❤️

Because though some things may fade out and away as time passes, other things just wait to pounce on you as soon as you step back into the world.

I made a solo drive to New Jersey this past weekend, only for one full day, to see my grandma who is slowly transitioning out of her physical body. I sat with her for about seven hours. Some of the time she talked like she always had, but much of the time she was somewhere else, seeing and experiencing things I could not. And though I am so glad I got that time with her, I’ve been an emotional wreck since.

I’ve experienced sudden loss and also slow, progressive loss. Neither feels worse than the other. They’re so different yet so similar. Sudden loss stabs you through the heart and you can’t breathe. Slow loss is being continually dragged below water, desperately gasping for air over and over, only to be continually pulled under. In both situations you are helpless. You give as much as you can but it will never be enough.

I am still making, slowly, in a more therapeutic way for myself. It is one of the meditative things I can do to relieve my mind temporarily and work toward creating something beautiful from a place of pain. ❤️

“Over the Rainbow”. | Just listed |. 🌈

Hey! It’s been a bit. We were visiting family in NY and now I’m home recovering from knee surgery yesterday, and a million things in between.

The Wizard of Oz was my favorite movie of all time when I was little. I watched it over and over again on our VCR until the wheels of the video tape began to squeak… and then I still watched it. My older brother cannot watch it to this day. 😆

Though I maybe will watch the movie once a year now, the symbolism in this movie changes for me each time. Now, to me, Dorothy goes on a journey. She journeys first to the inner depths of her soul, where she faces her shadows. Then, once she realizes that she has the power to get herself home, and has had this power all along, she does so, returning in a newly enlightened state. The twister is the spiral journey of her soul, traveling up and down. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” is a longing for a better life, but when she returns, she realizes that she has the power to create that world around herself, through love, light and gratitude for her home and the people in her life, simply by shining her light.

Gratitude is something I’m working toward acknowledging each and every day. I’m going with the flow more than I used to, and am learning to release my expectations of any particular outcomes.

Life is beautiful, if only we let it be and make our decisions out of love and not out of fear. A decision made out of fear has never steered me the right way, but decisions made out of love, those are golden. 💛

It’s now been 1 year since my brother in law, Erik, unexpectedly passed on. It’s now 16 years since my niece, nephew and sister in law also passed unexpectedly. I try not to dwell on the heaviness, but it finds me and sits with me nonetheless.

This is an older piece, but one that Erik loved enough to buy. I tried to just give it to him but he wasn’t having that. He named it “Predator”, although I didn’t get it until my sister in law told me. 😆 (I was never big on scary movies.) Erik was funny and witty and kind. “Wild Horses”. 🐴 🤍 (Just listed)

When I was a kid, I spent many summers in the beautiful, wild freedom of Corolla in the NC Outer Banks. I remember watching the wild horses roam the beach, mostly around sunset. It was incredibly magical.

Last month was my first time back to the island as an adult with my own family. Although there were undoubtedly more houses and more people, the island still felt like one of the most untouched areas left on the east coast of the US.

Just like when I was a child, the wild horses visited mostly in the early hours of the morning and at sunset. In those moments I felt so incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be present with them and observe them in their natural, free existence.

What a world it would be if horses once again roamed free, along with many other majestic species that once called the land we now live on their home.

In this piece, I used driftwood from the beach where we stayed, along with other natural found materials from the island sprinkled in. These elements give this piece soul. It carries the magic of the wild horses and protected land within it. 🌊

Still working on this babe bursting with color and texture! I don’t know when she’ll be done. Having time to weave right now, in the way I like, which requires solitude, peace and quiet space, has been very difficult to find.

I miss the peace. I miss the flow. I just need time and space. I’m trying to meet everyone’s needs right now, including my own, but synching them is difficult, as everyone in my house requires something different in order to thrive best. Trying to accomplish that has been a difficult, possibly impossible task. There’s got to be some give from everyone. Though, trying to work that out with my children is like asking them to jump into shark infested waters. 🙃 The more I give to them and lose the space needed for me, the worse off everyone seems to be. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think I’m asking for a problem to be solved which cannot be. It cannot all be perfect and we can’t all be happy all the time. Why can I just still not accept that in my life? I have no answer right now.

“Valhalla” 🏔️ JUST LISTED!

This is my favorite piece I’ve ever made. Letting go of meaningful finished work is always emotional, but it’s part of the process. The process is the art for me. It’s the healing I need. The colors and textures and working with my hands feeds my soul. Release is necessary in order to begin anew.

The weight of so much is falling upon me now… the devastation in NC, the approaching storm headed for the gulf coast of Florida, where I lived for 12 years… where friends and family still reside… we’re also approaching Erik’s birthday (he would be 39), and the one year anniversary of his unexpected passing on Halloween night. Just a few days later will be the 16th anniversary of the tragic passing of my niece, nephew and sister-in-law.

The mystery of this time of year fascinates me. I’ve been exploring the ancient festival of Samhain more deeply. I feel that the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds has been thinning more and more each year. I’m going to be talking about my experiences with this on my podcast hopefully this week.

I have so many feelings about this, but overall I’m proud of myself for actually doing it! I don’t know if I’ve ever been more vulnerable. I feel like I’ve just revealed my heart to the entire world.

I’m a strong believer in shedding your skin, alchemizing your inner world with your outer in order to achieve peace. I believe that one of the greatest things I can do in this life is to share and connect with others. In sharing, not only am I continuing to heal myself, but am hopeful that sharing about my experience on some pretty difficult topics will reach those who need to hear my stories and know that they are not alone. Connection is medicine.

My belief is that none of us are alone, and that we are all connected as ONE in a way I do not yet have the words to explain.

As promised, here is the journey of “Valhalla”. Swiping through the photos is going backward in time…

I began this piece on October 27, 2023. It was also the day I started keeping a daily journal (last photos). I wanted to create a large piece that resembled two black mountains on a fjord in Scandinavia.

On October 31, 2023, in the middle of the night, we found out that my brother-in-law, Erik, passed away unexpectedly. My husband flew to NY with his mom that night. I got the kids settled with my parents, then flew up to NY. We spent the month of November there.

It wasn’t until we got back home to NC and I was in the process of handling Erik’s accounts, etc. that I noticed the background on his laptop… the same image I had in my head of the what I was weaving.

This piece sat in my studio space unfinished for almost the entire year (6th picture in). I just didn’t have the desire to continue with it.

Earlier this month, I was looking at it from across the room, and was hit with an idea of a way to finish it that wasn’t in the way I had originally imagined…

What if I flipped it? I unwove the blue (water) from the middle, cut the warp stings down the middle, and was left with two parts of a semi-circle. I decided to tie them together to complete the semi-circle and hang it that way. But then, as I was tying the two sides together, I decided that I loved the way it looked when the two sides were only partially tied together, leaving some of the long wrap strings hanging down in the center.

Over the course of the year, the piece had transformed, like me, like Erik…

What was up with as now down (and visa versa). My first thought was to call this piece “Hanging Gardens”, as that’s what I thought it resembled, but it didn’t feel right. Then it hit me… “Valhalla”. That’s what this piece spoke to me. Erik was named after the Norse explorer, Erik the Red. He had a deep connection to Lord of the Rings, Led Zeppelin and many other cool things. He was an amazing artist in more ways than one, but drumming was his passion and he was incredibly good.

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! I have officially made 37 trips around the sun. 😊☀️

It’s also a full moon, the Sturgeon moon, and a blue super moon! 🌕💙 This is incredibly meaningful to me. I hadn’t started following the moon and its cycles up until December of last year, but in doing so, I noticed that my daughter’s birthday fell on the Buck full moon this year, mine on the Sturgeon, and then my son’s will fall on the Harvest full moon this year. Both kids are exactly 29 days apart from my birthday on both sides… how incredibly rare and cool is that?!

The next time all 3 of our birthdays will fall on a full moon will be in 29 years! 😁

This piece I am currently on comes from a place very deep. I will probably share more about it here later. Since it’s also the first day of school I plan to weave for most of the afternoon! 😍🧶💜

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! I have officially made 37 trips around the sun. 😊☀️

It’s also a full moon, the Sturgeon moon, and a blue super moon! 🌕💙 This is incredibly meaningful to me. I hadn’t started following the moon and its cycles up until December of last year, but in doing so, I noticed that my daughter’s birthday fell on the Buck full moon this year, mine on the Sturgeon, and then my son’s will fall on the Harvest full moon this year. Both kids are exactly 29 days apart from my birthday on both sides… how incredibly rare and cool is that?!

The next time all 3 of our birthdays will fall on a full moon will be in 29 years! 😁

This piece I am currently on comes from a place very deep. I will probably share more about it here later. Since it’s also the first day of school I plan to weave for most of the afternoon! 😍🧶💜

“Midsummer Dream” 🩷🧡💛💚🩵

Just listed! For me, this piece captures the transition from summer into autumn. There are so many hidden elements in this piece to discover as you wander through it, as if wandering through the woods with fresh eyes and taking in every little detail.

Lately, on my evening walks in the woods I’ve come across so much more wildlife that I wouldn’t have seen had I not been quiet and observant. Hawks, mama deer and their babies, rabbits… all just quietly enjoying the protection in our woods. The wild animals seem to be increasing year after year, as more and more building is pushing them to find safe, wooded areas.

They know that here is safe. 💚 They sense that the people here are safe. They do not run as we pass by and that brings me great joy as they know we can be trusted. Yesterday, on the main road, a woman was in the street stopping traffic so a mama deer and fawn could cross. It was beautiful.

As the noise and chaos of the world around us continues to increase, remember that you can always return to nature to ground yourself and remember what’s important. ☺️🌲🦌

After approximately a million years on the loom, this piece is finally ready to come off today! 😄

I haven’t been finishing or listing any pieces lately. When I finish weaving, they just get hung up on the walls still on the looms. The process of actually finishing a piece off just hasn’t appealed to me in the past couple months.

BUT, I have a new piece in my head that I want to start and need this loom for it, so there’s my motivation! Plus, this beauty deserves to be hung properly. 😊
